Oshun, Goddess of the love and river.

Oshun, the goddess of the river and fresh waters, the goddess of love, fruitfulness, joy, and good fortune.

“Oshun is vital to the creation in this world and the next.
This is true in all the religions where she is honored,
from Ifa to Lucumi to Candomble.”

Orishas, Goddesses, and Voodoo Queens, by Lilith Dorsey.

Oshun is synchronized for Catholics with "the Virgin of Mercedes", it is highly revered in Cuba and Venezuela, her original name "Òşun" comes from one of the most important rivers in Nigeria, she is the queen of the fresh waters of the world, the streams, springs, and rivers.

Oshun is especially revered by women seeking children, economically challenged people (especially business owners), and all individuals seeking love in their lives, these areas are Oshun's strength.

Oshun is associated with motherhood and fertility, couple relationships, and good fortune, the rivers are his channel, and in them resides much of his power and character. The best way to ask Oshun for favors, as well as to venerate him, is through the rivers, those through which she manifests her enormous power.

Simple offering to Oshun for good fortune.

One day Friday (fifth day of the week and day dedicated to Oshun), prepare a mixture with dried sunflower petals, dried orange peel, and frankincense, and proceed to burn it as incense, moving the smoke of this incense around all corners.

You light five yellow or white candles in honor of Oshun, write your request on a piece of paper (write this five times), and tie the paper like a scroll using a piece of ribbon, burn this small scroll with the candles Praying to the goddess of rivers that illuminates your desire with her light, and inviting her to dance with you to celebrate, once this wish has been granted.

Ritual to evoke love and good fortune (highly recommended)

To carry out this ritual you must be very aware of not leaving the remains of it, dissipated anywhere, we must make as little disorder as possible. This ritual is a little more elaborate than the previous one, but it is a very common rite in the cities of the Caribbean, as a personal reference, I recommend it with my eyes closed, Oshun has never failed me, and has never failed anyone.

One day early in the morning you should go to the nearest river, preferably to the most private part of the river where you find less people, you can go accompanied, this ritual can be done in a group without any inconvenience.

You need to bring with you, a yellow or white candle (a large candle), honey from bees. five oranges, cinnamon powder, yellow cloth ribbon, an "auyama" (Cucurbita moschata), a cluster of white or yellow flowers, preferably chrysanthemums, sunflowers, or daisies.

At the edge of the river, and just after a bath in it, you will choose a place on the shore to make this offering.

Wash the auyama at the edge of the river, place the oranges around it, pour the cinnamon powder and honey all around it and over the fruits, cover them as much as you can, you can use background music while doing this, or someone can play music with a small drum.

As you do this, ask out loud and from the heart, for your own well-being, for the blessings of Oshun as the Queen of the river, ask that the hypnotic beauty of the river be reflected in every aspect of your life and your relationships, even in your abundance personal.

Make five knots with the yellow ribbon, and use it to tie the candle from the bottom up praying out loud "just as I tie this candle with love, I tie good fortune and all good things to my life." Light the candle next to the fruit offering, and sing, pray, or play some music.

You can (if you wish) spill a little white wine around the offering. Now enter the river with the bunch of flowers in your hands, pray to Oshun and say out loud "to you mistress of these sweet waters that nourish the world, queen of these waters that come and go, these fruits, this light, these I dedicate aromas and these flowers to you ”, then release the flowers to the river as an offering to the goddess, and dive into the river once more.

After the flowers, you can throw a little honey into the waters of the river for Oshun, and thanks for her presence on this and every day.

Once the candle is finished burning, it gathers everything, cuts the fruits into pieces, and throws them into the river as well, as an offering to the spirits that accompany Oshun on his journey. Some people prefer to extinguish the candle and light it again in the house to end the ritual, this is up to everyone.

Other little Rituals in home

To win Oshun's favor, it is always good to keep yellow flowers at home, and a small bowl with stones or river water, oranges covered with honey near the entrance, to attract good fortune, or drawings of white butterflies and yellow at home.
